It’s like Christmas Eve…

I simply cannot wait for the return of college football; which fortunately is in a few hours.  I think 2010 is going to be a very exciting year with several twists and turns along the way. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the winner of the BCS championship comes from a team outside the preseason Top 10. I enjoy opening weekend because every team starts off undefeated. Every team has hopes of winning a National Championship. But you know how the saying goes, “…there can only be one, blah, blah, blah.” Generally schools schedule the cupcake 1-AA teams and pray it doesn’t bite them in the rear (i.e. Appalachian State stunning Michigan at The Big House in ‘07).

However it’s always intriguing to watch those few opening weekend matchups where the game means more than just piling up the stats. For a few of these teams an early season loss could really alter its whole outlook on the season. I’m talking about LSU vs. UNC, VT vs. Boise State, UCONN vs. Michigan, and Notre Dame vs. Purdue. UNC is looking like it’s about to implode before action even starts. Despite the #3 ranking, if Boise State loses against VT they most likely won’t make it to an end of the season BCS bowl game. Michigan has lost two out of the last three season openers and Rich Rod needs a solid win against UCONN to keep the UM faithful quiet, for now. And Notre Dame is just looking to get back to Notre Dame status.

With so many storylines, which one will you follow?
