In a late, last minute move I decided to make my 2010 Predictions for the SEC. See, living out here in the Midwest I don’t get much TV exposure to all the teams in the South Eastern Conference. But like my buddy Mike V always says, “You can’t be a legit football analyst unless you cover the best conference in college football,” and he’s right.
I wanted to make some quick notes about this conference though…
Alabama is Number 1 in the AP for a reason; they kicked ass last season and are the defending NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. Now with that said, even though ‘Bama will start the season #1 I don’t believe they’ll repeat this feat. Call me crazy, but I think Arkansas could really shock the world this season. Ryan Mallett is a freak of nature and as long as he stays healthy I like the Razorbacks’ chances out in the SEC West. The reason I am not so high on Alabama is because of the simple fact that it’s defense only returns 2 starters. Sure, Saban is a great coach, but playing in a competitive conference such as the SEC I believe the lack of experience on this side of the ball could really hurt their chances of repeating.
Out in the East, I like Georgia’s chances to contend for the SEC crown. This team returns 10 on offense and while they lose signal caller Joe Cox, the playmakers on this team will take the pressure off of Aaron Murray. Last year the DAWGS were second in total offense (in the East) behind Florida. The Gators are always deadly however there are a lot of holes to fill on this roster, especially at QB with the loss of Tim Tebow. And don’t sleep on South Carolina this year either! The Gamecocks return the most starters in the East and are more than capable of running the tables this season.
