One Player To Keep An Eye On in ’12

The last time Michigan fans had a player as electrifying as Denard Robinson was back when Charles Woodson was terrorizing offenses as an All-American cornerback.

Both athletes have the ability to change a game with just one play. Woodson exhibited a killer instinct to take over and go into beast mode, making acrobatic interceptions and returning punts to the end zone. And Robinson never seems to get rattled, even when a play breaks down. He too has an instinct to hurt opposing teams, either with the pass or run.

Though all the comparisons fall just short of a National Championship and Heisman Trophy, both of which Woodson claimed in 1997. But did you know that Denard Robinson is the first player in NCAA history to pass for 2,500 yards and rush for 1,500 in a single season? He’s also one of only ten players to gain 3,000 yards passing and rushing in a career. However of all the numbers and records, the only one that truly matters is Michigan’s win total. Last season, Robinson guided Big Blue to its first 11-win season since 2006. But if Robinson can lead his team to 14-win season this year, he wouldn’t only be doing something Charles Woodson help do for Michigan when he was a junior (go undefeated) but he’d also be bringing a National Championship back to Ann Arbor and maybe, just maybe, a Heisman trophy to go along with it…
