My 2010 Conference Outlook: Big 12 South

Oklahoma (12-0, 8-0) Going undefeated in College football is an extremely daunting task but I think Oklahoma could go the distance this season. Only 5 starters return on defense but the offense is virtually still intact. And let’s not forget, Bob Stoops is one of the best college football coaches in the game: 117-29. The man knows a thing or two about wining.
Texas A&M (10-2, 6-2) Texas A&M returns a very talented offense in ’10 and lose only 2 starters on defense. All signs point to a more improved and experienced squad. This team quite possibly could finish in 2nd place in the South…above TEXAS!
Texas (9-3, 5-3) Texas was able to accomplish some pretty great things during the Colt McCoy era. However now that Colt is gone, UT will be forced to start over with a new young gun. Garrett Gilbert stepped in during the BCS Championship game under a lot of pressure but now he owns the keys to the car. The receivers on this squad are also going to have to step up since all-everything Jordan Shipley is gone too. I think this team will make a slight dip though, and lose 3 games (Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Nebraska).
Texas Tech (8-4, 5-3) Texas Tech went 9-4 last season under offensive guru/weirdo Mike Leach. Unfortunately he won’t return to Lubbock as a result of locking boys behind closets but hey, you’ve got Tommy Tuberville now. He was a good coach at Auburn and he’ll have a lot of talent to work with at Tech. I don’t think the Red Raiders will suffer much of a drop-off at all in 2010.
Baylor (7-5, 4-4) It’s common knowledge that Baylor is a perennial loser in the Big 12 (at least during my generation) but I see a tide turning down in Waco. After suffering an ACL injury last season, QB Robert Griffin returns to a young, but solid offense. BU has a nice schedule this year and an end of the season bowl game definitely could be achievable.
Oklahoma State (6-6, 2-6) Oklahoma State was on the verge of a 10-win season last year however with only 8 total returning starters I think it could be a stretch for them to get 6 wins in 2010. And I’m not trying to talk smack or anything about his boys because he’d kill me! He’s a grown man, and he’s 40!
